MMH Resource List
Quick Navigation
This resource list is designed to offer a starting point for anyone looking for help, guidance, or resources for mental health related needs. It is updated often. Our group is based in Annapolis Maryland and many of these resources are central to the area. However there is also an abundance of nationwide resources listed here are well. We know that sometimes the hardest part of addressing mental health is knowing where to begin. Let us help!
You will find various resources here including things like addiction services, locations for food pantries, help for homelessness, as well as options for help during crisis situations, and information on finding mental health providers. You will also find hotlines and resources for things like eating disorders, gambling, grief and loss, LQBTQ, cancer, and caregiver support.
To start here are some guidelines from one of our mental health professionals to seek out a provider.
Please ALWAYS feel free to reach out to us with any pertinent specifics or questions about options to help narrow down the search for a practitioner. The two first recommendations we give everyone for finding a therapist of any kind are contacting your insurance either by phone or through their online portal and searching providers based on category as it will only give you who is in network.
The other option is using psychology today and using the “find a therapist” (click here for finding a psychiatrist) feature that allows you to search by insurance policy, location, provider gender, what population they work with (children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, etc.), what type of therapy they provide and what type of problems they treat.
Either of those options will give you a great head start in finding providers. The next recommendation we give everyone is reading reviews/bios on therapists and also asking them for basically a phone interview. Almost all therapists will be willing to do a brief phone discussion to answer any questions you have and give you a feel for them. We always recommend picking your top 3-5 choices and talking to all of them to make a final decision. Finding a good therapist isn’t always as easy as finding a good doctor because doctors only have to know how to practice medicine and they can help you; for you to feel supported and helped by a therapist you need to connect with them. Don’t give up if the first person doesn’t pan out the way you hoped, there are always other providers and it is definitely possible to find a good match with some time and patience!! Good luck and please let us know if you have any questions about specific concerns or what different treatment options mean or involve!”

Maryland is a “No means No” State. You do not have to physically resist for a Suspect to be charged with Rape as long as you say “No”. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). If a Victim has been raped she/he can obtain a sexual assault exam in the jurisdiction in which the act occurred. The evidence will be preserved and stored by the Police Department under an anonymous number until the Victim feels comfortable to come forward and file a police report.
